The New Year's Meme
Dec. 31st, 2012 10:33 pmEighth year in a row for this. Yikes!
Best moments, in no particular order:
1. Starting the year with Bit's birth (Jan 16) and ending it with BZ's (Dec 15)
2. The Great April Road Trip with
readerjane and
stop_thinking (Aranhe) to see KoT. (It's always the disasters that are the most memorable - in this case, getting lost in Austin.)
3. All the fun of my 50th birthday, particularly the fics organized by Natesmama. (Oh, and Hart's tweet!)
4. Finding out that a friend who'd not been given very good odds is now cancer-free.
5. The Hobbit - I don't have as much money as I did ten years ago, and so can't see it as many times as I did its predecessors, but I really love this film - for many of the same reasons.
6. Winning a Bones poster from Fox on the day of the S8 premiere. (Yeah, I know it's dumb, but it's a really fun memory!)
Worst moments:
1. The seventeen days my brother-in-law spent in the hospital after back surgery; the fact that it didn't correct the problem is even worse.
2. All the associated stress of migrating server platforms at work (six weeks of nearly constant problem-solving, still not completely resolved.)
You know, I really can't think of any others. Oldest Nephew's health is still dicey, but he's yet with us; despite the stress and inadequate hours, I still like my job. I'm quite blessed to have many, many more things I could have listed in the 'best' column than in the 'worst.'
Biggest Accomplishments:
1. Another good year at work. We're still struggling with the migration fall-out, but my boss makes a point of telling me she's more than pleased with me, and I got a good-sized (relative to where I work!) bonus a few weeks ago to support that. (We don't get merit raises, but do get end-of-year bonuses based on our evaluations, and I was in the top tier.)
2. Some writing projects I'm pleased with. Not what I wanted, precisely, but accomplishments none the less.
Looking ahead:
I'm rethinking how I approach goals. There are things I want to do, but writing them down in January doesn't seem to have magically resulted in a completed novel nor weight loss. (Hah!)
So this year, I'm thinking more along the lines of some very specific things I can do that will hopefully lay a groundwork for accomplishing more:
1. I want to do something physical every day - whether it's walking for a few minutes in the morning, or playing a Wii game.
2. I want to be more mindful of what I eat. That's all - just get in the habit of asking, 'do I really want this? Why?'
3. I want to write, every day, even if only for a few minutes. I read through this 'resolutions for writers' post yesterday, and like some of these ideas, very much:

So that's it for me for 2012, looking forward to 2013. I hope the year has more blessings than sorrow, for all of us.
